Paralegal to Newly Qualified Solicitor

A candidate whom we had previously placed as a paralegal returned to Errington Legal when seeking a newly qualified solicitor position.

Brief

We assisted this candidate in securing a Paralegal position with a top-tier London law firm. Since then, they had completed and passed both SQE1 and SQE2, and gained the required two years of Qualifying Work Experience. They were in the process of applying for admission as a solicitor, when they reapproached us to once again, support their search, this time for a newly qualified role as a Private Client solicitor.

Process

Although we knew the candidate, it was important to meet and discuss what they would be looking for from a new role, making sure to understand the motivations and driving factors to support the search correctly and secure them a suitable position.

We were able to draw up a selection of firms for this candidate, based on what they were looking for. After discussing the options, the candidate decided which firms they wished to move forward with.  Thereafter we approached the chosen firms to share the candidate’s details, which included sharing some information beyond what you might see on a CV.

Interviews

We arranged a number of interviews at firms where this candidate was very interested to work. Having the ability to attend a selection of interviews is incredibly beneficial, because it can give a good insight into how each firm/team will work, where they will fit into said team, what their day-to-day might look like and, perhaps most importantly, having the opportunity to meet some of the team in person during the interview process.

We worked with the candidate to support them in being fully prepared before heading into the interview process, which we are familiar with, so they knew what to expect.

Final stage

Offers of employment arrived from more than one firm that this candidate was interested in. We advised that they take some time to think over the offers and to revisit their original driving factors and motivations.  At this stage in particular, we add value and guidance to both firm(s) and candidate, ensuring a positive experience throughout for all.

After the decision was made by the candidate, we moved to an acceptance and supported the candidate through their notice period.

To be able to support returning candidates who are progressing their legal career is very gratifying for our consultants, demonstrating the committed relationship we have with our candidates who trust us to support their continued development.
