Some people may be hesitant about working with a recruitment agent when seeking a new role, particularly if they have never done so before. So, why work with an agency?
Firstly, any agency should be bringing strong market knowledge to the table. This is vital information for any lawyer seeking (or even just considering), pastures new. And this knowledge should go beyond simply having awareness of live vacancies, or which areas of law are particularly active/stagnant when it comes to recruitment. Having taken the time to find out more about your experience and what you are looking for, an agent should then be able to pitch you to the firms you are interested in by highlighting your strengths as a candidate. It can be tricky to analyse oneself from the point of view of a potential employer, and this is something an agency can really help with.
Furthermore, working with an agency should make the process of securing a new role far easier in practical sense. Not only should they do the leg work in terms of reviewing vacancies and approaching firms, but when you advance to offer stage your agency will also deal with the more awkward (but necessary) topics, such as negotiating salary or part-time/flexible working.
