When considering a career move, why use us?

Some people may be hesitant about working with a recruitment agent when seeking a new role, particularly if they have never done so before. So, why work with an agency?

Firstly, any agency should be bringing strong market knowledge to the table. This is vital information for any lawyer seeking (or even just considering), pastures new. And this knowledge should go beyond simply having awareness of live vacancies, or which areas of law are particularly active/stagnant when it comes to recruitment. The role of an agency in this sense is to form good relationships with firms they work with, thereby gaining insight into the culture of the firm and the personalities within teams, as well as the work itself. This in turn should enable an agency to suggest which firms/teams may be a good fit for candidates. A good agency should be able to capitalise on relationships they have forged over years, which can be a much more fruitful approach than the “cold start” of a direct application.

Your agency should also be able to provide you with an objective viewpoint on your skills and “selling points”. They should listen to what is important to you, and never push you in a direction you do not feel comfortable with. Having taken the time to find out more about your experience and what you are looking for, an agent should then be able to pitch you to the firms you are interested in by highlighting your strengths as a candidate. It can be tricky to analyse oneself from the point of view of a potential employer, and this is something an agency can really help with.

Furthermore, working with an agency should make the process of securing a new role far easier in practical sense. Not only should they do the leg work in terms of reviewing vacancies and approaching firms, but when you advance to offer stage your agency will also deal with the more awkward (but necessary) topics, such as negotiating salary or part-time/flexible working. Changing jobs can be stressful, but a good recruitment agent should help to take most of the hassle out of the process. Here at Errington Legal we pride ourselves on adding value and providing support throughout. A testimonial from one of our recent candidates can be found below:

"At a difficult time, approaching qualification and looking for an NQ role, Eleanor and Ellie made contact with me and made the whole process so much easier and less daunting. Both Eleanor and Ellie were fantastic, helping me to prepare my CV, target the right the firms and provide great advice and assistance heading into the interviews. Without Errington Legal’s knowledge of the legal jobs market and strong relationships with local firms, I would not have been able to secure the role that I did. I can’t recommend Eleanor and Ellie enough!"
