Moving law firms - What mattered to me as a candidate.
by Beth Joy, Legal Recruitment Consultant, Birmingham
Prior to joining Errington Legal I spent a few years working at some top Birmingham law firms. Recruitment agencies played a significant part in my search and I had a mix of positive and negative experience. Now as a recruiter myself I use my experiences as a candidate to influence my own approach with the legal professionals I work for.
The things that mattered most to me were:
- A recruiter that would listen and be as invested in my career move/plan as I was;
- Not being bombarded with roles that were not relevant to my objectives;
- Market knowledge;
- Willingness to spend the time preparing me for interviews and providing me with useful feedback;
- Help when it came to the offer negotiation, offering sensible guidance.
Errington Legal are a real step away from the stereotypical ‘sales’ style that recruitment is typically known for. This was evident even in the way I was recruited. Sometimes as a candidate all it takes is someone to sit down with you over a coffee and really get to know you and understand what it is you’re looking for, this is something I am proud to say we offer to all candidates.
